ME Falcon Spirit

From The Principal

Welcome to February! We are completing the first half of the school year, and students and staff returned from winter break full of energy and ready to work. January was filled with several wonderful events, including our MLK assembly on Friday, January 16th, organized and led by our 5th-grade leaders. The assembly also featured our choir, along with a variety of students who shared a story. It was a great event that highlighted our Mukilteo Elementary leaders in action.

We regularly work on opportunities related to the Leader In Me and the 7 Habits as we introduce and review different aspects of this learning regularly with students. in January we have been looking for students who are demonstrating Habit 3: Put First Things First which means to decide what is most important and to take care of that first. Thinking about what needs to be done tomorrow or by the end of the week can be overwhelming, especially for children. Learning to think of which things are the most important and taking care of them first allows children (and adults) to be less stressed. One tool that is helpful is to write down or share with someone else how we will “Put First Things First”. This could simply be a piece of paper that is used each week or a set time for a conversation to talk about the important must do items for the week. Modeling this behavior is one of the best ways to teach children.

We have many fun things to look forward to in February, including our first band, orchestra, and choir concert, Kindness Week, and mid-winter break! Please remind students to bundle up on cold days so they can stay warm and dry during recess.

Let's go Seahawks!

Principal
