Conference Week | Save the Date

Conferences are coming up November 24th -26th. There will be no school during conferences. Conference sign-ups were sent out through parent square last week to sign up for a time to meet with your student’s teacher. We look forward to seeing all families during the upcoming conference week!

As a Leader In Me school, we conduct student-led conferences allowing students to lead reflective conversations about progress and set goals with families/guardians. These conferences are a great time to talk about how students and families are feeling about the start of a new school year, and for students/teachers to share information about current academic levels and some examples of what learning looks like in your student’s current classroom/grade. The conference will also involve talking about some goals your student has and how teachers and families can work together to support your child in making progress towards their goals.

PTSA Funds New Sensory Tools

Last year, Dana Giachetti, ME’s multilingual learner teacher, set up a sensory room off the library and a sensory library where teachers can check out materials, such as fidgets and headphones, for their classrooms. These efforts were funded by the ME PTSA’s teacher grants and a grant from the Mukilteo School District.

This fall, the ME PTSA approved additional funding to add new supplies to the sensory room and library to help support our students, including:

  • A small ice machine in the library next to the sink. Ice is incredibly regulating. The brain shifts attention to the new, external sensation (the cold), which can interrupt an escalating cycle of distress. For students who are dysregulated or dissociated, cold gives immediate body feedback, which can be calming.
  • A vibration plate, which can be regulating for sensory seekers.
  • An assortment of sour candy that can be used as a sensory tool (not a snack). Like ice, the sour taste can help pull focus back to the present moment and gives the body a clear and safe physical sensation that competes with emotional distress.

Volunteer to Support PTSA Events and Programs

The ME PTSA is always looking for volunteers to help with our events and programs. If you're interested in helping support our upcoming events or learning from our current Nature Guide Committee Chairs or Volunteer Coordinator to help support these roles next year, let us know by emailing officers@meptsa.org
