Picture Retake Day - November 4th

If your child missed Picture Day on September 18 or would like to have their photo retaken, Picture Retake Day will take place on Tuesday, November 4.
  • Absent students: If your child was absent on the original Picture Day and you already purchased photos, you don’t need to do anything. Their picture will automatically be taken on November 4.
  • Retakes: If your child is having retakes, please have them bring their original photo packet to school on November 4 to return to the photographers. There is no cost for retakes unless you plan to keep both photo sets. In that case, please place a new order for the retake photos using the link below.

To order photos for the November 4 retake day, please click here. Orders must be submitted by 10:00 PM on November 3. The link above is only for November 4 retakes. If you would like to order additional copies of the original September 18 photos, please use the order form included in the photo packet you’ll receive this week.

If you have any questions, please contact KIDS Photography at Hello@KIDSschoolPhotos.com.

Arrival & Dismissal Reminder

ARRIVAL
We tell students that it is COOL to be ON TIME for SCHOOL. On time means they are in their classroom by 9:00 AM.  When students arrive at 9:00 AM the bell has rung, and they are considered tardy/late. Please help your student be on time and ready to learn each day. If your student’s classroom is in the new building, please keep in mind that it takes a little extra time to get there. We recommend arriving no later than 8:55 AM to ensure your student arrives on time.

DISMISSAL
All dismissal changes must go through the office. To make sure we have time to communicate the dismissal changes we ask families to call the office at least one hour prior to dismissal - this means no later than 2:25 PM (1:55 PM for Summit) Monday - Thursday and 1:10 PM (12:40 PM for Summit) on Friday.

Early pickup:
If your child has an appointment or needs to be picked up early from school, please remember to bring your photo ID with you to our office. While we know many of our families, this is an extra measure to ensure safety at school. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe!

Going home a different way:
If your child is going to be going home a different way, please call our school office at least one hour prior to dismissal. The end of the day is very busy and this allows us to make sure that we have time to connect with teachers and students, so they are aware of changes.

Your cooperation keeps arrival and dismissal safe, smooth, and efficient for all of our elementary students. Thank you for your partnership!

Technology Tip

This week was Digital Citizenship Week. Throughout the year in tech class, grades 3-5 engage in activities to promote healthy, balanced, and safe habits with media and technology use. Some of the lessons may include: how to recognize phishing and spam, how to evaluate whether something online is true, and ways to use devices respectfully and responsibly.

Here are some family resources for all grade levels to keep the digital citizenship conversations going at home.

Cell Phone and Smartwatch Policy

District policy (Students - Series 3000 - Students and Telecommunication Devices – 3245) states that students in possession of telecommunications devices including but not limited to smartphones, smartwatches, personal computers, cellular phones, pagers, beepers, and other related personal electronic communication devices ("Telecommunication Devices") shall observe the following conditions:
  1. Telecommunication Devices shall be turned on and operated only before and after the regular school day unless an emergency situation exists that involves imminent physical danger or a school administrator authorizes student use;
  2. Students shall not use Telecommunication Devices in a manner that poses a threat to academic integrity, disrupts the learning environment, or violates the privacy rights of others;
Cell phones carried by students may not be used during school hours (8:45-3:25) on school grounds and must be turned completely off and remain in backpacks or in an otherwise unobtrusive place; any use for calling, text messaging, recording voice/video, taking pictures, and other functions are not allowed.

Students may wear smartwatches during school hours (8:45-3:25), but smart watches must be kept on silent mode and only used to check the time; any use for calling, texting, recording voice/video, taking pictures, accessing the internet, or other non-timekeeping functions are not allowed.

Parent-student phone/smart watch contact during school hours can take place using the school telephones. This policy may be altered during a time of extreme all-school emergency. The school is not responsible for any phones, smart watches or electronics brought to school.

A first violation of the policy will include teacher/staff confiscation of the phone or smart watch, and it will be returned at the end of the school day. A second violation will include confiscation of the phone or smart watch until the end of the school day at which time the student may pick up the phone or smart watch in the office. On the third, and all subsequent offenses, a parent will have to come to school to pick up the cell phone or smart watch.

Supporting Youth in a Digital World

Mukilteo School District is proud to welcome Dr. Lucía Magis-Weinberg, a globally recognized expert in adolescent brain development, for two powerful virtual sessions this October: one in English and one in Spanish.

Thursday, October 30, 6 to 7 p.m. (Session in Spanish)
Spanish language event: Zoom link

Thursday, November 6, 6 to 7 p.m. (Session in English)
English language event: Zoom link

This session will give you the practical tools and confidence to set healthy limits, foster digital wellness, and guide your children to be responsible digital citizens. We will cover creating a family media plan, establishing clear rules, and managing screen time without constant battles.

Together, you will learn to mentor, rather than monitor, so your kids build a positive and safe relationship with technology.

Your Voice Matters: Serve on a School District Committee

Mukilteo School District invites you to help shape important decisions about curriculum, budget, and student services by serving on a district standing committee. Interested in learning more or volunteering? Join us for a Zoom meeting on Monday, November 17 at 4 p.m. To receive the Zoom link, please RSVP by Wednesday, November 12.

Committee members are elected by attendees at the meeting and may serve on one committee per year. We would love to have you involved!

During this year’s meeting, the school district will be looking to fill these positions on standing committees:

  • BUDGET COMMITTEE: The committee reviews and provides input to the superintendent regarding board and districtwide initiatives and preliminary budget recommendations. The committee meets twice a month from late January through early May. There is one parent opening (two-year term).
  • RESEARCH AND ASSESSMENT: The committee reviews proposals for research conducted in the district for approval and makes recommendations regarding the school district’s assessment program. The committee meets when research proposals are submitted and need to be reviewed. This is generally twice per year. There is one parent opening on the committee this year (two-year term).
  • STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The committee reviews and recommends revisions to the Exceptional Misconduct portion of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. It meets once a year, usually in May. There are two openings this year (two-year terms).
  • INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE: The committee reviews and decides upon curriculum materials recommendations by district and school teams, ensuring all instructional resources align with district standards, state regulations, and reflect community values. The Instructional Materials Committee makes recommendations to the school board for adoption. The committee has meetings in the afternoon, two or three times a year, and committee members serve three-year terms. There are three parent/family positions open this year.
  • SPECIAL PROGRAMS: The committee's purpose is to foster communication and learn about the district’s multilingual education, intervention, highly capable, and special education programs, as well as provide input on annual applications and program evaluation efforts. The committee meets twice a year, usually in the late afternoon or evening. There are two parent/family member openings (two-year terms) for parents who have students receiving one of the following services: Title 1, Highly Capable Program.
