Back to School Night will be on October 16th from 6:00-7:00. This is a student-driven, drop-in event where students and guardians are welcome! Students will show you their classroom and school through an interactive scavenger hunt or walking tour. Teachers will be available to answer questions about the curriculum and general classroom routines. You will also have the opportunity to see your child’s desk, classroom learning tools such as journals and math books, where things are turned in, and other things related to classroom routines for a successful year. As you explore the rest of the school, students and families can visit specialist classrooms and other learning spaces that are part of the weekly schedule. Student conferences will then take place in November to go over your child’s goals and progress.

Also, in October we will have our first SOAR assembly. The Fantastic Falcon award presented at the SOAR assemblies highlights the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Students. This month’s focus is on habit one: Being Proactive. Once a teacher has chosen the students in their classroom the office will be sending those families a Parent Square notification. This message will indicate that your child will be recognized, and you are able to attend to see them receive the award. We will be having recognition assemblies throughout the school year to highlight a few students in each classroom who have been demonstrating our monthly habits and themes.

We’ve had a great start to the year and look forward to keeping the momentum going. Wishing you a wonderful October.

Jack Sackett
Principal

Reminder

The office would like to share a few reminders to help things run smoothly:

  • Early Dismissal: If your student needs to leave early, a parent or guardian must come into the office to sign them out. Please allow enough time for us to locate your student and bring them to the office.
  • Going-Home Changes: If there’s a change in how your student will be going home (e.g., walking, riding the bus, or parent pick-up), please call the office as early as possible. The last 30 minutes of the school day are very busy, which can make it difficult to reach teachers or coordinate last-minute changes.
  • Reporting an Absence: please email the following information: child's name, dates absent, reason for absence to MEAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu. You can also call the front office at 425.366.3100 to report your absence.
  • After-School Playground Use: This is a friendly reminder that our playgrounds are closed immediately after school dismissal. The campus, including all play areas, opens to the public at 4:00 PM. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

MOD Pizza Fundraiser & BINGO - Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who supported the ME PTSA on Thursday, Sept. 18! We loved bumping into our ME community at MOD Pizza and seeing so many joyful faces at our Back-to-School BINGO Social!

Thanks to you, we raised nearly $640, which will support our ME PTSA programs and grants.

September Reading Challenge

Please stop by the library to pick up a copy of the September reading challenge. To complete this reading challenge, choose four different books to read this month that match the categories listed. Be sure to write in the name of the book you read in or next to the lemon where it fits. Turn it into Mrs. Morse or Mrs. Edwards when you're done for a chance to win a prize. Happy Reading!

Volunteer To Be an Art Docent

The ME PTSA oversees the Art Docent Program, which is run entirely by volunteers. Art Docents bring fine arts into the classroom approximately once a month. You do not need to be an artist or a teacher to volunteer.

Short lessons and fun projects introduce students to artists and works of art, contextual world history, and art movements through different artistic mediums, as acrylics, watercolors, chalk/oil pastels, and collage. They also teach art concepts as color theory, perspective, texture, shading, blending, and more.

Volunteer To Be a Nature Guide

ME PTSA's Nature Guides are volunteers who enable students to learn about nature in the ME Outdoor Classroom and Garden.

Volunteers partner with teachers to lead activities for students in our outdoor learning space. We have a pre-recorded orientation available for volunteers who are interested in becoming Nature Guides, as well as year-round activities for each grade.

Student lessons include taking time to practice gratitude and mindfulness in nature, which has been shown to improve academic and social emotional learning outcomes for students.

Nature Guide Orientation: Friday, October 3rd
The orientation for Nature Guide volunteers will be next Friday, Oct. 3, at both 2:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the ME Outdoor Classroom (weather permitting). There is also a virtual orientation that volunteers can view to get started sooner. Visit the ME PTSA website to learn more about volunteering as a Nature Guide, and sign up to volunteer using the Nature Guide sign-up form. If you have questions about volunteering, contact PTSA Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Augustine at volunteers@meptsa.org

Food for Thought Donations

Food For Thought is a donation driven program, and has helped provide students in need with classroom snacks for the past 5 years! Snacking in a healthy way improves energy levels and mental clarity. Smart snacking can assist in maintaining your blood sugar levels throughout the day.

If you would like to help donate to the cause, please bring snacks to the front office any time. Thank you for supporting this program and ensuring our students in need have an available snack!
