Conferences/Leader In Me
It was great to see everyone visiting classrooms this week for fall conferences leading up to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Conferences serve as a great time to check in, see where students are and partner together to set goals for continued learning and growth. I was able to sit in on a few student led conferences and really enjoyed hearing students sharing their strengths and areas that they would like to focus in on in the upcoming months.

During November and continuing into December we have also been focused on looking for students that are demonstrating Habit 2: Beginning with the End in Mind.  Begin with the End in Mind means to think about how you would like something to turn out before you get started. For example, before doing a puzzle, we look at the cover of the box or a picture to see what the final product will look like. Before learning something new we build a picture of what it will look like and set goals or action steps to make it happen. Habit 2: Beginning with the End in Mind can be extended into the home as well. For example, we all have something we need to get better at or improve. For students at home, maybe it is completing homework, learning to ride a bike, brushing and/or flossing our teeth, cleaning our rooms, or maybe it is something related to school like improving reading fluency. The area of improvement, or the broad goal, becomes your “end in mind”. Then it is about helping students to think of specific steps that will lead to achieving their goal. For example, if the goal is to improve as a reader, specific steps may include reading a certain amount of time every day, practicing reading aloud to someone regularly, and making sure you have a collection of interesting books to never miss a day of reading.

Families, thanks for all you do to support the ongoing academic and social growth of our Mukilteo Elementary Falcon students!

Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays are an exciting time for students, and we want to acknowledge student birthdays while keeping all our children safe. Due to the many students with allergies and food sensitivities, food items are not permitted for birthday celebrations at school. Please coordinate with the classroom teacher to determine the best time to celebrate your child’s birthday.

If you choose to send in a treat for your child’s classroom, we are requesting that it be non-food based. Treat ideas include: pencils or stickers, homemade Play-Doh, bubbles, small party favors, silly straws, origami, stickers, homemade games, and bookmarks. The donation of a book to the classroom library in honor of a child’s birthday would be appropriate. If you intend to purchase non-food birthday treats, please limit spending to less than $2 per student.

Balloon deliveries will be held in the office and given to the student at the end of the day. Please remember that balloon bouquets are not allowed on the school bus.
Invitations
Invitations for an activity outside of school, like a birthday party for example, should be given out outside of school unless the whole class is invited. This cuts down on hurt feelings or feelings of being excluded.
